Measurement Procedure:

1. Open the prism cover. This is the first step to prepare the refractometer for measurement.
2. Using the pipette, place 2-3 drops of the tested liquid on the surface of the prism. This will allow measurement of the liquid's properties.
3. Close the prism cover and gently press it down. Ensure that the liquid fills the entire surface of the prism, eliminating any air bubbles.
4. Place the refractometer on a stable surface and wait about 30 seconds. This will allow the sample temperature to equalize with the instrument temperature, which is essential for accurate measurements.
5. Point the refractometer towards the light source and look through the eyepiece. This is where you will take the measurement.
6. Read the value from the appropriate scale at the boundary of the white and blue area. This is the light/shadow boundary, which contains information about the liquid's properties.
7. If the image is blurry, use the adjustment knob located in the eyepiece.

Calibration of the Refractometer

Before the first use of the refractometer, it is necessary to calibrate it accurately, maintaining the specified ambient temperature of 20°C. Also, ensure that the refractometer itself has reached the same temperature as the surroundings. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Open the prism cover of the refractometer, allowing access to the measurement surface.
2. Using the pipette, gently place 2-3 drops of distilled water on the surface of the prism.
3. Close the prism cover and lightly press it down until the liquid fills the entire surface of the prism, eliminating any air bubbles.
4. Wait about 30 seconds to equalize the sample temperature to the instrument temperature.
5. Point the refractometer towards the light source and look through the eyepiece.

Instructions for Operating the Refractometer

• Do not expose the device to humid working conditions or immerse it in water. If the instrument fogs up or water gets into the housing, it may affect measurement accuracy.
• Do not use this instrument to measure corrosive chemicals, as they may damage the prism coating and affect the accuracy of results.
• Before each new measurement, clean the instrument to avoid any contaminants that could affect measurement accuracy.
• Remember that this is an optical instrument, so it requires careful handling and proper storage. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in damage to the optical elements and their basic structure.
